D. Nick Caporale became “Of Counsel” to the firm upon leaving service as a Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court, a position he held from January 1982 through July 1998. From July 1979 to the date of his appointment to the Nebraska Supreme Court, he served as a Judge of the Nebraska District Court in and for Douglas County. He provides strategic direction and support for the firm’s attorneys, supplies guidance in the preparation of pleadings and other documents, including trial and appellate briefs, and furnishes mediation and arbitration services.
For over twenty years before becoming a judge, Mr. Caporale practiced law in the private sector representing a variety of interests, primarily as a trial attorney. During this period, he served as a member of the House of Delegates of the Nebraska State Bar Association and as a member of the association’s Committee on Practice and Procedure. While attending the University of Nebraska College of Law, he served as an Associate Editor of the Nebraska Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
From 1952 to 1954, Mr. Caporale served as a U.S. Army lieutenant in Korea, for which he was awarded a Bronze Star. In 2004 he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Nebraska College of Law and in 1982 was presented with the Alumni Achievement Award by the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He received the Nebraska Bar Foundation Distinguished Service Award in 2011. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Nebraska College of Law, at the University of Nebraska College of Business Administration and at the University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Arts and Sciences. Since 2006, Mr. Caporale has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in the fields of Arbitration and Mediation. Mr. Caporale was named in 2009 Great Plains Super Lawyers for his work in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
